St Matthew's school has been providing education for the children of the local area since 1874. Since that time the school has undergone many changes, from being separate boys and girls to becoming 'co-educational' and also expansion and renovation of the buildings.
As we look ahead to our 150th birthday in 2024, we are wanting to collect as much of the history of the school as we can to share here on our website.
We already have some copies of plans from the county archives as well as a class photo from 1958 and memories of time at school from an ex-pupil who went on to become a senior inspector of education in the Midlands.
If you have any stories, photos or other information that you think would be of interest, please get in touch with us via the contact page.
Many thanks,
Mr M Mackley
