Writing at St Matthew’s
Here at St Matthew’s we recognise the important part Literacy plays in our learning across the curriculum. The staff develop pupils’ spoken language, reading, writing and vocabulary as integral aspects of the teaching of every subject. English is both a subject in its own right and the medium for teaching; for pupils, understanding the language provides access to the whole curriculum.
At St Matthew’s the teaching of English encompasses the following:
- Spoken Language (speaking and listening)
- Reading
- Writing
- Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation
We have tried to ensure that throughout school children will encounter a wide range of narrative, non-fiction and poetry texts.
On this page you will find out what each class is learning in English throughout the year.
