This week, instead of meeting in the hall, I have prepared worship on screen.
Our school value this half term is community and in the week we look ahead to celebrate Harvest I have a challenge for everyone. What can we do to actually make a difference to other peoples' lives? It is good and it is right to bring gifts to say thanks and to help others but it is even better to do what we can to work with people to make a difference so that they do not need to rely on gifts to help them out.
At the end of the worship I want each class to put in the comments their ideas about we as a school can do to try and bring about change and to make a real and long lasting difference for others.

These are some of our ideas for charities we can support -
We could donate food and tinned produce to Love Preston (Food banks) and also the Harvest collection at St Matthew's.
In school, to help our friends, we could have a school uniform sale/ uniformbank so we can gift/trade our old uniforms.
We could also have a toy trade, support our PTFA and a raffle or a cake sale.
We could also collect in clothes. or spare change.

3C discussed how we could deliver food for those who are unable to collect it themselves or how we could help teach people how to grow their own food so they are not relying on others.

Share a smile and share our food
Write to Boris Johnson and ask him to give money for people in places such as Africa, to be able to buy their own farm machinery, wells and seeds, etc so they can be self sufficient
Buy Fair Trade goods to give a fair price to farmers, etc.
Pray for them and give them encouragement to not give up.
Donate clothes and tools to the other countries.
Donate to charities to support our neighbours.

We had several ideas of ways we could help people truly improve their lives in our class. Ideas such as:
-Helping to tidy and neaten houses
- Giving seeds so people can grow their own food
- Writing to government to ask for more support in the local area
- Helping people look for jobs
- Writing a recipe book for of simple and cheap recipes
We hope to be able to put something into action to help our neighbours

Thank you everyone, great to see such compassion and consideration for others. I am collecting all these ideas together to try and see what we can do as a school.
I especially like the ideas linked to helping people become independent and challenging those in power who could make a real difference to actually do so!

Your ideas are great and we will look at them in worship on 4th October.
Jesus said this about helping others:
(Matthew 25:35) I was hungry, and you gave me food. I was thirsty, and you gave me something to drink. I was alone and away from home, and you invited me into your house.
