Hello, for me one of the hardest things about not being in school 'as normal' is being able to gather together as a school family for our acts of worship.  So, I thought I would share with you what we would have been thinking about this week.

Normally I would light a candle and say these words:

   This day may we know:

the wisdom of God the Father,

the friendship of God the Son and

the guidance of God the Holy Spirit.

At this time of separation, it is very hard to meet with our friends and we will probably be really missing them. With the internet, mobile phones and video calling we can at least see each others' faces and talk but it's not the same as being with them in the same room.

In the Old Testament part of the Bible there is a book of wise sayings called The Book of Proverbs. One saying is:

There is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. Proverbs Chapter 18, verse 24.

Christians believe that God, through Jesus, is our closest friend, even closer than our best friend or even a brother or sister.

Different people have different views of friendship, what it means to them. This poem gives a few suggestions of what friendship can be:

Friendship is:

Finding things to do together

Relying on each other

Impossible on your own

Enjoying being together

Never selfish

Depending on someone else

Sharing hopes and dreams

Happiness and laughter

Including others

Precious

Is this how you view friendship? During this time away from friends, spending much more time with family, have a think about what friendship means to you. Are you actually friends with your family (I know at times I find it hard to be friendly with mine!) and what qualities do you have that make you a good friend?

Like everyone else, I am really looking forward to being able to meet up with my friends when this is all over and we can celebrate spending time together again.

May God bless us all.

Prayer for a Special Friend

Dear Lord Jesus,

You have shown us through the Bible that you want to be woven into our lives as our friend.

Thank you that we can talk to you at any time because you are even closer to use than the people in our own family.

Amen
